DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. Judy, Linda and Teresa are forced to suspend their disbelief for episodes 7-10 of “Vagabond” (배가본드), an SBS action thriller starring Lee SeungGi and Bae Suzy.

Teresa is still struggling to accept the wackiness of this drama, whereas Judy and Linda have embraced it wholeheartedly. Judy is annoyed that the drama has pulled a switcheroo with Haeri (Bae Suzy); instead of an "Alias"-like competent spy, we have a novice agent who gets ignored by her team. Linda alleges that Suzy fans want to see her in the same approachable girl-next-door roles forever. Let her grow as an actor, for heaven's sake!

We have so many questions this episode:
1) Why is Haeri so obsessed with high-fives?
2) Why are the President and Prime Minister comparing pee streams? Is this a common thing men do?
3) Why does Subway have a pizza sub? What's it like? Someone eat it and tell us!

Glossary of nicknames we've given to some characters:
Chief Sadsack - Chief Gang (Lee GiYoung), the bespectacled ally/mentor for Haeri.
Sadface (aka Rockface) - Chief Gi (Shin SungRok), the rules-obsessed NIS officer who is maybe the second lead of this drama
Scarface - Jerome (Yoo TaeOh), the assassin who blows up the plane.

Digressions:
2:30 - When the Camellia Blooms
5:46 - Listener E-mail!
1:01:33 - Why are eggs so important in Korea?
1:21:37 - Pizza Sub, the newest abomination from Subway

Some Korean terms:
썸: [sseom] flirting without commitment.
짓이기다: [jit-ni-gi-da] to crush violently.

Michael Giacchino - "Alias" - Theme Song

EVERYTHING HAPPENS. Judy, Linda and Teresa whirl through episodes 3-6 of “Vagabond” (배가본드), an SBS action thriller starring Lee SeungGi and Bae Suzy.

This week, we are introduced to a whole slew of characters. Will they live up to their potential? As goofy as this drama is, DalGeon (Lee SeungGi) is doing his best to remind us that the impetus for all of his actions is grief for his nephew. We're curious how good Haeri's (Bae Suzy) Arabic is, so if any of our listeners speak Arabic, let us know!

Now that we're getting more and more into the drama, it's time to start giving characters nicknames! Here's a glossary so far:

Chief Sadsack - Chief Gang (Lee GiYoung), the bespectacled ally/mentor for Haeri.

Sadface (aka Rockface) - Chief Gi (Shin SungRok), the rules-obsessed NIS officer who is maybe the second lead of this drama?

Scarface - Jerome (Yoo TaeOh), the assassin who blows up the plane.

Digressions:

1:35 - We watched one episode of "Love Alarm"

3:28 - We binged the first episode of "Derry Girls"

4:45 - Listener E-mails!

8:03 - Minnesota, the 11th Canadian province?

1:06:21 - When to switch from formal to informal Korean

Some Korean terms:

대한민국, 그렇게 허술하지 않아: [dae-han-min-gook-geu-rut-keh-huh-sool-ha-ji-an-ah] "Korea isn't that lax", which is very different from "Your country [Korea] has what it takes."

싸가지 없어: [ssa-ga-ji-up-suh] impolite; lacking in manners.

Audio credits:

Tearliner Feat. Love x Stereo - “Love Alarm OST” - "In My Dreams"

Cranberries – “Dreams”

We're back from our extended summer break!

Judy, Linda and Teresa are having so much fun with episodes 1-2 of “Vagabond” (배가본드), a SBS action thriller starring Lee SeungGi and Bae Suzy.

We were hooked on this show from the very beginning. The action sequences are great and the lead actors are compelling. There are so many twists and turns that you absolutely must pay attention. If you haven't started already, we highly recommend it!

Digressions:

1:31 - Borderlands 3

3:11 - The Outer Worlds

6:08 - Maurice Druon’s “The Accursed Kings” series

6:56 - Dr. Stone

8:06 - Star Trek: Voyager

9:54 - Re-introduction to Linda!

1:08:24 - What K-dramas are coming out in November?

Audio credits:

GRiZ – “Can’t Hold Me Down”

Justin E. Bell – “The Outer Worlds” – “Main Menu Theme”

Dennis McCarthy - "Star Trek: Voyager" - "Main Title Theme"

Linda is back as a special guest, and she forced Judy to watch the first episode of "Arthdal Chronicles" (아스달 연대기), a TVN drama starring Song JoongKi, Kim JiWon and Jang DongGun.

"WHY?" is the predominant question. Why does this look so cheap if it cost over $50million? Why is the conlang so lazily un-Korean if this is meant to be set in an ancient Korea? Why is this episode 80 minutes if they spend most of it on dumb things instead of establishing important plot points? Why are they doing such a bad job of ripping off more interesting and successful shows and movies?

Some Korean terms:

사람: [sa-ram] human.

정을 나누다: [jeong-eul-na-noo-da] an old fashioned way of saying "to make love"; literally "to share love".

항아리: [hang-ah-ri] clay jar.

미세먼지: [mi-seh-meon-ji] microdust; it's a worrisome environmental issue in Korea.

Audio credits:

Patrick Doyle – “Thor” – “Sons of Odin”

Hans Zimmer – “Gladiator” – “Now We Are Free”

Howard Shore - "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" - "Rivendell"

That's how this ends? Judy and Teresa were deflated by episodes 33-36 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

Things we needed from the final week of this drama but didn't get:

1) SangJin (Tae InHo) to actually face his feelings for MiYeong (Lee YooYoung), not suck at it and be an actual human about it.

2) The backstory of the violent relationship between Sister #1 (Baek JiWon), Chairwoman (Kim MinJung) and Lawyer Sister (Ahn EunJin) and the resolution of that conflict, one way or the other.

3) JungGuk (Choi SiWon) and MiYeong working through their problems and reaching a mature decision, one way or the other.

4) A satisfying conclusion for the Chairwoman, who was our favourite character, for heaven's sake! She didn't deserve such a limp ending to her story.

Digressions:

0:55 - "Divinity: Original Sin II"

1:42 - "The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience"

3:17 - Teresa checked out "Arthdal Chronicles". Our special Mini-episode will be released in July!

Some Korean terms:

사기꾼: [sa-gi-ggoon] con artist.

사랑꾼: [sa-rang-ggoon] love artist.

Audio credits:

Borislav Slavov - “Divinity: Original Sin II” – “Main Theme”

The Lonely Island – “Oakland Nights (feat. Sia)”

Penultimate week! Judy and Teresa zip through episodes 29-32 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

Guys, remember how the Chairwoman (Kim MinJung) is our favourite character and we were waiting forever for the showdown between her and Sister #1 (Baek JiWon)? And also looking forward to the mysterious Sister #3 (Yoon JooHee) and what she's capable of?

SIGH.

We'll be taking a small break from weekly episodes for the months of July and August! There will be Mini-Episodes from time to time while we deal with some life stuff, so please look out for those. We'll have some special guests!

Digressions:

0:49 - We absolutely loved "Always Be My Maybe"

Some Korean terms:

김치찌개: [gim-chi-jji-geh] kimchi stew.

Audio credits:

Hello Peril – “Always Be My Maybe” – “Hello”

Glenn Stafford - “Starcraft” – “Terran Theme”

Judy and Teresa were okay with episodes 25-28 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

We were very annoyed to find out that "My Fellow Citizens!" is now under the Viki Pass Plus. We hope that it's not hindering your ability to watch the rest of it and listen to our episodes.

This week wasn't as strong as last week in terms of meaningful interactions between characters. It did have a lot of physical gags, which were admittedly fun. Finally, JungGuk's sister (Park KyungHye) contributes to the drama by being pretty amazing. Why is she a con artist, again?

Digressions:

0:53 – Listener e-mail!

7:24 – "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion" (コードギアス 反逆のルルーシュ)

8:34 – Korean meal etiquette

Some Korean terms:

성: [seong] Chinese based word root for "sex"

성: [seong] last name.

Audio credits:

Kotaro Nakagawa – “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” – “Opening Theme 1”

Remember when we had such high hopes for Sharon? Judy and Teresa were excited by episodes 21-24 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

This week is full of great scenes between supporting characters that build them up as actual people with their own motivations, rather than mannequins that come to life when the camera turns to them. Judy feels vindicated that someone else has finally noticed that SangJin (Tae InHo) has feelings for MiYeong (Lee YooYoung). Will JungGuk (Choi SiWon) ever tell MiYeong about his con man past or will it all blow up in his face?

Digressions:

2:56 – “Dark” (TV series)

3:55 - "Game of Thrones" (no spoilers)

7:16 - Red Dead Redemption 2

Some Korean terms:

범생이: [beom-seng-ee] derogatory version of "모범생" [mo-beom-seng], which means "model student".

Audio credits:

Apparat – “Dark” – “Goodbye (Theme from Dark, A Netflix Original Series)”

Judy and Teresa wish they could be as cool as the Chairwoman in episodes 17-20 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

The Viki translators say that having a flower behind one's ear implies that someone is crazy? This is the first time that Judy's heard about this.

The Chairwoman (Kim MinJung) reveals her actual plan, which makes more sense than turning a con man into an assemblyman. Why do Korean elections involve so many high schoolers and also, dancing? MiYeong (Lee YooYoung) continues to ignore people who blatantly tell her that her husband's a con man.

Digressions:

0:46 - "Mary and the Witch's Flower"

3:18 - "Pokemon Detective Pikachu"

4:50 - Red Dead Redemption 2

6:53 - "Drunk History"

Some Korean terms:

기러기아빠: [gi-ruh-gi-ah-ppa] literally "goose father"; term for fathers left behind in Korea while the mothers and children move overseas for education purposes.

Audio credits:

Takatsugu Muramatsu – “Mary and the Witch’s Flower” – “Mary’s Theme”

Why are we not bathing in champagne right now? Judy and Teresa are still very much into episodes 13-16 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

Judy keeps calling Miyeong’s stepbrother, Sangjin (Tae InHo), by the wrong name. Sorry!

Our favourite character right now is the Chairwoman (Kim MinJung). She is so good at knowing her enemies' weak points and belittling them with only her words. On the other hand, Sangjin is way too perfect to be real, and we think there must be a dark side to him. Just like Jungguk (Choi SiWon) isn't the best con man, maybe Miyeong (Lee YooYoung) isn't the best detective either?

Digressions:

1:23 - So much crochet

4:12 - Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth (board game)

6:02 - "Twin Peaks: The Return"

7:23 - Teresa's Crave rant

Some Korean terms:

사랑 [sa-rang]: love.

사채 [sa-cheh]: private loan; usually from a loan shark.

사기꾼 [sa-gi-kkoon]: con artist.

짜장면 [jja-ja-myun]: black bean noodles; a favourite delivery food for Koreans.

"Now we have to fight with our butts!" Judy and Teresa love the rising tension between the main characters in episodes 9-12 of “My Fellow Citizens!” (국민여러분!), a KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung.

JungGuk (Choi SiWon), a professional con man, continues to not anticipate the very obvious strategies of other characters. The show's excellent editing shows the three main candidates and their  political stance (or lack thereof) in an intriguing way. We also get a hint of another powerful female character who is on her way to stir up the drama!

Digressions:

0:54 - "SHAZAM!"

3:31 - "Street Food" (Netflix documentary)

6:34 - "Killing Eve"

7:31 - "Persona" (페르소나)

10:53 - "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri"

12:22 - "Rilakkuma and Kaoru" (リラックマとカオルさん)

14:44 - Teresa is learning to crochet

Audio credits:

Benjamin Wallfisch – “SHAZAM!” – “SHAZAM! Theme”

After 5 weeks of hemming and hawing, Judy and Teresa have finally picked "My Fellow Citizens!" (국민여러분!) to cover this spring.

This week, we watched episodes 5-8 of this KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung. If you would like to hear about episodes 1-4, please check out KDMEO episodes 130 and 131.

We really liked these 4 episodes. The production team is doing an excellent job at zipping things along and intercutting smoothly between jokes and serious moments. There may also be some rambling about Chairwoman's (Kim MinJung) coats, "Mister Sunshine" (미스터션샤인) and real estate scams.

Digressions:

0:56 - "Avengers: Endgame" (spoiler free)

2:18 - "Captain Marvel" (spoiler free)

3:44 - Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game

8:28 - "The Handmaid's Tale" (minor spoilers)

Some Korean terms:

깍두기 [kkak-doo-gi]: kimchi made from radishes cut into small cubes. To see a picture of 깍두기 and imagine the process of turning a human body into that shape, click here.

Audio credits:

Alan Silvestri – “Avengers: Endgame” – “Main on End”

It's time for Second Impressions! We've selected the following four dramas to see if the second episodes live up to their promise.

6:16 - Kim HyeJa, Han JiMin and Nam JooHyuk continue to tug at our heartstrings in the JTBC drama, "Radiant" (눈이 부시게). If only we weren't so annoyed by the time turner plot holes! Judy is surprisingly more positive about this show than Teresa.

21:10 - "My Fellow Citizens!" (국민여러분!) is a lighthearted KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung. Teresa is worried that the fun con artist/heist concept may get derailed by the politics. Judy is excited by all the powerful female characters, but weirded out by the politician stepbrother who shows up out of the blue.

33:53 - In the second episode of "Touch Your Heart" (진심이 닿다), Yoo InNa and Lee DongWook's characters are learning more about each other and developing a respectful relationship. It is definitely full of kdrama tropes, but we are liking it so far. If you want to watch the original Ghana chocolate commercial, click here. Judy thought Ghana chocolates weren't a thing anymore, but apparently they're still around!

44:34 - "Possessed" (빙의) is an OCN drama starring Go JoonHee and Song SaeByeok. This episode establishes some rules about seeing spirits, which may make it difficult to use the psychic's powers to actually solve any crime. The detective is so thoughtful and considerate that we're liking him more and more.

Digressions:

1:10 - Teresa has betrayed her Horde roots in "World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth"

2:54 - "HOMECOMING: A film by Beyonce"

4:17 - "The Death of Stalin"

41:56 - Are hugs a Canadian thing?

Some Korean terms:

파김치: [pa-kim-chi] kimchi made with green onion ("pa")

붕어빵: [boong-uh-ppang] koi-shaped bread filled with sweet red beans; popular street food in Korea.

Audio credits:

Glenn Stafford, Neal Acree, Sam Cardon, Clint Bajakian, David Arkenstone and Jason Hayes  - “World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth” – “Before the Storm”

Beyonce – “Homecoming: The Live Album” – “Welcome”

Apr 24, 2019

We genuinely enjoyed all three dramas that we selected for springtime first impressions this week.

Digressions:

1:05 - "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" Part 2

1:39 - "The Umbrella Academy"

3:21 - "Love, Death & Robots"

8:36 - "Doctor Prisoner" (닥터 프리즈너) is a KBS medical (?) drama, starring Nam GoongMin, Kim ByungChul, Kwon NaRa and Choi WonYoung. The term that comes most to mind about this show is "overwrought". The ER doctor/oncologist/neurosurgeon/OBGYN played by Nam GoongMin is so very good! The rich, illegitimate, drug-using douchebag played by Choi WonYoung is so very bad! In spite of all this, we genuinely enjoyed the cheesiness. Too bad you can't watch the rest of it for 300-something days if you don't feel like paying for Viki Pass Plus.

27:02 - "My Fellow Citizens!" (국민여러분!) is a lighthearted KBS2 drama starring Choi SiWon, Lee YooYoung and Kim MinJung. It's refreshing to see a story about a married couple who have drifted apart and will have to find their way back to each other. The con artist husband versus detective wife conflict somehow elevates the whole thing to a new level of fun!

45:45 - We selected "Possessed" (빙의) on a pure whim, to be honest. It's an OCN drama starring Go JoonHee and Song SaeByeok as an unlikely team who uses psychic abilities to catch a serial killer. Despite its very meh show premise, the excellent writing and production values make it definitely worth checking out.

Next week, we are doing second impressions for the following four dramas: "Radiant" (눈이 부시게), "Touch Your Heart" (진심이 닿다), "My Fellow Citizens!" and "Possessed". Which will be our final pick for spring 2019?

Audio credits:

Jeff Russo - "The Umbrella Academy" – “The Umbrella Academy”

Woo HyeMi & Innovator – “Doctor Prisoner” – “Fearless”

Hyungdon & Daejune (형돈이와 대준이) - "My Fellow Citizens!" - Yadannatdaya (야단났다야)

Springtime First Impressions continue! This week's theme is "flummoxed".

4:53 - The second season of "Go Go Waikiki" (aka "Welcome to Waikiki" aka 으라차차 와이키키) starts off as a major disappointment. We wish JTBC had given up on the whole enterprise when they realized that they had only Lee YiKyung to work with. Believe us when we say that we really liked his character in the first season, but he has completely crossed over the line into caricature territory.

19:56 - "The Fiery Priest" (열혈사제) is an SBS drama about a priest, a prosecutor and a detective forming a team to bring down corruption in their city. It stars Kim NamGil, Honey Lee and Kim SungKyun. It was difficult to pay attention to the corruption plot when characters are eating black bean noodles (jajangmyun, 짜장면) every other scene.

32:57 - "The Item" was an unexpected delight from MBC, starring Joo JiHoon, Jin SeYeon and Kim KangWoo. There was definitely enough tension and mystery to keep our interest, but more importantly, we want to recommend this to you based on our theory that the main villain is a secret vampire.

Next week, we're checking out "Possessed" (빙의), "Doctor Prisoner" (닥터 프리즈너) and "My Fellow Citizens!" (국민 여러분!).

Springtime First Impressions continue! Horsey air kiss!

Digressions:

1:15 - "Fargo", the 2014 TV series

3:42 - "Turn: Washington's Spies"

6:44 - "Borderlands 3" news! Hype hype hype!

Some Korean terms:

다모: [da-mo] female investigator in ancient Korea; literally "tea lady". One theory of the title's etymology is that these investigators may have been recruited from tea rooms in Koryo dynasty as spies.

해치: [hae-chi] also known as "haetae" (해태); an East Asian mythological animal that was said to be able to look into one's heart and know of evil doings. For a minor infraction, it would butt you with its horns, but for an unforgivable sin, it would eat you whole.

9:40 - "He is Psychometric" (사이코메트리 그녀석) is a TVN drama starring Park JinYoung (from GOT7), Shin YeEun and Kim Kwon. We were hoping for crime solving, not high school drama shenanigans. Some of the characters were strangely callous about the fact that they were dealing with murder victims. The police officers continue to be predictably terrible at their jobs.

24:44 - "Radiant" (눈이 부시게) is a relatable drama from JTBC. It stars Kim HyeJa, Han JiMin and Nam JooHyuk. Han JiMin plays a sadsack character who has realized that she won't be able to achieve her dream of becoming an announcer, but is too afraid to abandon it. Nam JooHyuk is so much better at playing a down-to-earth character (see: Joonhyung from "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) than a standoffish jerk (see: Habaek from "Bride of the Water God").

38:10 - "Haechi" (해치) is a historical drama based around the succession struggles of King Yeongjo, who ruled Joseon from 1724 to 1776. This SBS drama stars Jung IlWoo, Go ARa, Kwon Yul and Park Hoon, who portray an unlikely group of people who will fight corruption and help Prince YeonIng ascend the throne. As with any historical drama based on actual people, Judy fell into a Wikipedia hole.

Next week, we're talking about "The Item" (아이템), "Go Go Waikiki" (으라차차 와이키키) season 2, and "The Fiery Priest" (열혈사제)!

Audio credits:

Jeff Russo – “Fargo” (2014) – “Main Theme”

Joy Williams, Matt Berninger and Charlie Peacock –“ Turn: Washington’s Spies” – “Hush”

GRiZ (ft. Tash Neal of The London Souls) – “Can’t Hold Me Down”

Kim HyungSuk – “Radiant” – “Be Dazzling

It's time to check out the kdrama selection of spring 2019!

Digressions:

1:34 - "The Girl on the Train"

2:04 - "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra

4:49 - First up is "Legal High" (리갈하이) from JTBC. It's a comedy (?) starring Jin Goo and Seo EunSoo as two lawyers who are conplete opposites, but must work together to win cases. Jin Goo plays a smarmy golddigger, who is completely different from his beloved character from "Descendants of the Sun".

20:45 - "Romance is a Bonus Book" (로맨스는 별책부록) is from TVN, starring Lee NaYoung and Lee JongSuk. Lee NaYoung gave us all of the feels as a dejected woman at the end of her rope, and Lee JongSuk plays her old childhood friend who's been repressing his feelings for her. Trust us when we say that it's way better than the sparse description available on Netflix. Screw Cinderella!

41:49 - Fans of "Goblin" were looking forward to Yoo InNa and Lee DongWook's reunion in "Touch Your Heart" (진심이 닿다), another TVN drama. Judy was suspicious that this was a money grab using the two actors' popularity, but was pleasantly surprised by the humour and the cast of secondary characters.

Next week, we'll be talking about "He Is Psychometric" (사이코메트리 그 녀석), "Radiant" (눈이 부시게) and "Haechi" (해치).

Audio credits:

John Williams – “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” – “The Rebel Fleet/End Title (Medley)”

Judy and Teresa finally watched the first season of "Kingdom" (킹덤), the first ever Netflix original K-drama, starring Ju JiHoon and Bae DooNa.

The first thing that will strike you about "Kingdom" is that it is a beautifully shot drama. The writer (Kim EunHee, who also wrote "Signal") knows exactly why we're watching - old-timey zombies - but also sprinkles enough interpersonal drama to keep us interested.

Next week, we start our springtime First Impressions! We'll be talking about "Legal High" (리걸하이) from JTBC, "Touch Your Heart" (진심이 닿다) from TVN and "Romance is a Bonus Book" (로맨스는 별책부록) from TVN. We're so excited!

Digressions:

0:52 - Listener E-mails!

10:15 - What's the Haewon Cho clan?

Audio credits:

Howard Shore - "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" – "The Lighting of the Beacons"

Will Judy's voice ever return to normal? It's a distant memory...

When you're on a rampage for vengeance, maybe don't warn your enemies that you're coming. Judy and Teresa yearn for something more from episodes 29-32 of “Ms Ma, Nemesis” (미스 마), an SBS mystery drama starring Kim YoonJin and Jung WoongIn.

The most exciting part of this week was when Ms Ma's (Kim YoonJin) knitting needles came back into action. For someone who has literally nothing to do except for solving cases and plot revenge for over a year, Ms Ma doesn't seem to have any dramatic plans for the final confrontation. Also, we don't think that's how you cover up a multiple murder.

Mar 13, 2019

We're back! Judy and Teresa finally get to talk about the bonkers penultimate episodes of “Ms Ma, Nemesis” (미스 마), an SBS mystery drama starring Kim YoonJin and Jung WoongIn.

This was a week of switcharoos. There were three (!) cases of body switcharoo as well as a car switcharoo. Believe us when we say that none of these make sense. The drama cobbles together the puzzle of Ms Ma's daughter, but it's so convoluted that no one could possibly come up with the correct solution. You know what, it doesn't really matter, because Ms Ma (Kim YoonJin) is too distracted by the murder of a rando teenager to focus on her own goddamn daughter.

A philosophical question: what constitutes an obstacle? Judy and Robert's heads are spinning at episode 5 of "Memories of the Alhambra" (알함브라 궁전의 추억), a TVN drama starring Park ShinHye and Hyun Bin.

Wait, this whole thing has only been two days so far? We still feel no sympathy for Jinwoo (Hyun Bin), who only now realizes that he caused the death of Hyungseok (Park Hoon), aka Dead Automobile. Heejoo (Park ShinHye) continues to be dumbest character.

TVN, why couldn't you just embrace the fact that this show is ridiculous and just go all in on the wacky?

Some Korean terms:

소설쓰고 자빠졌네: [so-seol-sseu-go-ja-ppa-jeot-neh] literal approximation of "You've fallen down writing a novel"; "--하고 자빠졌네" is an expression used to deride someone's actions.

차: [cha] homonym for "car" and "tea".

Less sociopathy and more goofy video game, pleae! Judy and Robert meander in their discussion of episode 4 of "Memories of the Alhambra" (알함브라 궁전의 추억), a TVN drama starring Park ShinHye and Hyun Bin.

Judy is so determined to be upset at watching this drama that she starts eating chocolate mid-recording. Meanwhile, Robert is oddly fixated on the idea of people stealing high-tech contact lenses off corpses and shoving them onto their own eyeballs?

Girl, you're a millionaire now. Put down the toilet phone! Judy and Robert get tipsy as they ramble about episode 3 of "Memories of the Alhambra" (알함브라 궁전의 추억), a TVN drama starring Park ShinHye and Hyun Bin.

We have to give credit where it's due. Could it be that all of the flaws in the video game were actually intended by the screenwriter to hint at an interesting twist in this "magical" game?

Of course, the "magic" that Hyun Bin's character keeps talking about seems to be basically money.

Digressions:

1:10 - Listener E-mails!

This week's theme is: "That's not how [insert plot device] works!" Judy and Teresa are befuddled by episodes 21-24 of “Ms Ma, Nemesis” (미스 마), an SBS mystery drama starring Kim YoonJin and Jung WoongIn.

Kim YoonJin is doing the lord's work this week, portraying both Ms Ma and also the doppleganger Writer. Judy gets disproportionately upset with a piece of jewelry. Teresa wants Ms Ma to adopt Eyeliner Kid (Choi SeungHoon) to form a Revenge Family.

Some Korean terms:

윷놀이: [yoot-nol-ee] a traditional Korean board game; closest approximation in Western culture would be "Sorry!"
