We have a confession to make. We were rather disappointed by episode 9 of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (구르미 그린 달빛). The acting, especially that of Park Bogum, is still superb, but we found the quick jumps between all the side plots very tedious to follow. Come on, guys, we know why we watch this show and it's not for the nonsensical rebellion storyline. And where was Yoonsung (Jinyoung from B1A4) in the episode?

Thankfully, episode 10 gave us all the sugarcoated romance our hearts desired between Samnom (Kim Yoojung) and the Crown Prince (Park Bogum). Yoonsung is back for a brief, but powerful confrontation with the Crown Prince. Judy is convinced that there will soon be a Crown Princess pageant in which Samnom and Hayun (Chae Soobin) will have to compete, because of course they do. Linda, who was previously optimistic about the eventual happy ending of this drama series, now isn't so sure. Don't give up, Linda!

Korean terms we mention in this episode:

현모양처: [hyun-mo-yang-chuh] wise mother and kind wife. It's a term for what ideal women were supposed to be like, in old Korea. You know, because women weren't allowed to do anything else

선비: [sun-bee] formal term for scholar. To be a true 선비, as per Confucius, you had to put fairness and goodness ahead of personal needs, and even your life.

연모: [yun-mo] old Korean term for "romantic love".

의금부: [ui-gum-boo] department for investigation and prosecution in old Korea.

한옥: [han-ok] traditional Korean house with shingles.

아버지: [ah-buh-jee] formal term for father.

어머니: [uh-muh-nee] formal term for mother.

It's our third episode! Judy thought she would have to tear her hair out after another issue with her external hard drive, but it's fixed now. You may hear some weird changes in sound between the 44-45 minute mark. Sorry. But we have audio clips from the drama embedded in the podcast now. We're so fancy!

In this episode of K-Drama My Eyes Out, we discuss episodes 7 and 8 of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (구르미 그린 달빛), starring Kim Yoojung, Park Bogum and Jinyoung. Linda and Judy spend way too much time analyzing THE kiss, 'cause we're still fawning teenagers at heart. Judy is worried that things are going a bit too well for the main characters, while Linda remains strangely optimistic. Ever the Madame Etiquette, Judy criticizes the Crown Prince for being a bad son (gasp!)

Also, everyone is Batman.

Korean terminology in the episode:

남색: [nam-sek] old Korean term for male homosexual. This makes us think, is there a term for lesbians? We should probably know this.

경복궁: [gyeong-bok-goong] largest palace in Korea.

내관: [nwe-gwan] eunuch.

첩: [chup] consort. As compared to 처 [chuh], which refers to a legitimate wife.

핏줄: [pit-jool] bloodline; relative.

In the second episode of the K-Drama My Eyes Out podcast, Linda and Judy discuss episodes 5 and 6 of Moonlight Drawn by Clouds (구르미 그린 달빛) starring Kim Yoojung, Park Bogum and Jinyoung. Judy unwittingly become Madame Etiquette and Linda is surprisingly venomous about the new romantic rival, Hayun, portrayed by Chae Soobin.

청계천: [chung-gye-chun] famous river in Seoul

한복: [han-bok] traditional Korean clothing

이불: [ee-bool] duvet

기생: [gi-seng] Korean form of geisha; female entertainer

외척: [weh-chuk] Queen's relatives, typically portrayed as rivals to the King's power

심쿵: [shim-koong] shortened term for 심장이 쿵쾅쿵쾅, "heart is thudding" (?!)

세자저하: [seh-ja-juh-ha] form of address for the Crown Prince, ie. Your Highness

존댓말: [jon-det-mal] formal speech

반말: [ban-mal] informal speech

Welcome to our brand new podcast, K-Drama My Eyes Out. In our inaugural episode, we discuss the first 4 episodes of the KBS2 drama, "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds", aka "Lovers in the Moonlight". We discuss how Linda can never seem to remember the actual name of the drama and how obsessed/frustrated Judy is with the slow-mo romantic shots.

Some Korean terms we cover:

가채: [ga-che] intricate wig worn by women.

도복: [do-bok] white uniform worn when performing martial arts - Yes, Judy mistakenly and repeatedly refers to Yoonsung (character portrayed by Jinyoung from B1A4) as "Flower dobok" when she actually means...

도포: [do-poh] flowy outerwear worn by noblemen.

엄친아 aka 엄마 친구 아들: [um-chin-ah] shortened word meaning the son of your mom's friend who is literally better than you at everything.

착해: [chak-hae] kind, well-mannered.

In this episode, we also refer to the article, "11 K-drama gender-benders ranked by realness" and Yoojung Kim's dance practice video on Instagram that she performs in episode 4.
