We contemplated whether we should upload such a frivolous episode amidst the deeply upsetting events happening in the world at present, but we ultimately decided to go ahead. Please know that we stand with the Black community, and are working to educate ourselves on how we can support efforts to eradicate systemic racism and inequality. Racism and social injustice are absolutely abhorrent and we, as a human race, must learn to treat each individual with respect, dignity and equality. We have included some links in our show notes today to places you can donate to or use to educate yourselves. Please remember to be kind, and stay safe and healthy.

아줌마: [ah-jum-ma] way to address an older woman.

고시원: [go-shi-won] dormitory for students studying for exams.

사모님: [sa-mo-nim] way to address the wife of a boss; "madam"

청개구리: [cheong-gae-goo-ri] green frog. This East Asian fable Linda talks about is about a disobedient frog who used to do the exact opposite of his parents' instructions. On her deathbed, the frog's mother tells him that she wants to be buried by the river, thinking that he'll bury her in the mountains instead. The frog regrets his unfilial ways and buries her by the river. Everytime it rains, he cries by the river, worried that her grave will wash away. Apparently, they made up this fable to explain why frogs croak by the river when it's about to rain?

떡볶이: [ddeok-bok-kki] spicy rice cakes.
