LET'S JUST BURN THIS THING DOWN! Judy and Linda discuss "D.P." (Deserter Pursuit), starring Jung HaeIn, Koo KyoHwan and Kim SungKyun.

WARNING: We talk about physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, as well as bullying and suicide.

To Stall For Fall, we are checking out some older Kdrama classics. Click on the names for the links, but some of them may not have English subtitles.
Next episode, we are covering "Autumn in My Heart" (가을동화), "Winter Sonata" (겨울연가), "Coffee Prince" (커피 프린스 1호점) and "My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho" (내 여자친구는 구미호).

Digressions:

3:09 - Listener E-mails!

24:10 - Judy was a guest on a recent episode of "The InfatuAsian Podcast", hosted by Curtis, our West Coast Correspondent! Click here to check out the episode.

26:43 - Linda finished season 2 of "The Baby-Sitters Club".

27:05 - "Free Guy" was a standard fluffy light Ryan Reynolds movie.

Some Korean terms:

고로케: [go-ro-ke] taken from the Japanese (コロッケ) version of croquette.

층계: [cheung-gye] older term for stairs; not actually from Japanese, as Linda thought.

다꽝: [da-kkwang] taken from the Japanese (沢庵) word for pickled daikon radish.

아이스께끼: [a-i-seu-kke-kki] taken from the Japanese (アイスケーキ) word for ice cream bar.

다마네기: [da-ma-ne-gi] taken from the Japanese (たまねぎ) word for onion.

간지: [gan-ji] slang based on Japanese (感じ) word for "feel"; "cool".

헌병: [heon-byeong] military police.

진짜사나이: [jin-jja-sa-na-i] "Real Man", a Korean reality show where celebrities try out the military experience.

HE'S A HACKER, QUESTION MARK?! Judy and Linda try out newer dramas for Fall 2021.

We decided to give "D.P." (Deserter Pursuit), starring Jung HaeIn, Koo KyoHwan and Kim SungKyun, its own KDMEO episode. Coming soon!

Digressions:

0:47 - New Patreon donors and Listener E-mails!

11:39 - Judy insists that you watch "Seinfeld", now on Netflix, but only from season 2 onwards.

14:29 - Let season 2 of "The Baby-Sitters Club" give you a warm, comforting hug.

15:49 - "Far Cry 6" is out! Judy is new to the franchise and is eager to acquire the so-called Battle Chicken, but will it be enough to stave off the post-Mass Effect depression?

19:04 - Linda really enjoyed "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings", reminiscent of beautiful martial arts movies of old.

23:37 - "Yumi's Cells" (유미의 세포들) is a TVN drama, starring Kim GoEun and An BoHyun. It's based on a 2015 webtoon, which may have been amusing, but the animated bits slow down the pace way too much. Kim GoEun's bangs and An BoHyun's chin scruff are distractingly awful.

30:29 - "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" (갯마을 차차차) is a TVN romantic comedy, starring Shin MinA and Kim SeonHo. Judy remembers the 2004 movie with much fondness. This is an easy watch with two adorable lead actors, so try it out!

39:24 - "Police University" (경찰수업) is an eyeroll-inducing piece from KBS. It stars JinYoung (B1A4), Krystal (f(x)) and Cha TaeHyun, and they can't do anything to help the godawful material.

Some Korean terms:

답답하다 [dap-dap-ha-da] to be frustrated.

뽑기 [ppop-gi] candy made with sugar and baking soda; currently super popular due to "Squid Game".

Audio credits:

Jonathan Wolff - "Seinfeld Theme"

Potty Mouth - "I Wanna"

DJ Shadow - "Nobody Speak"

Joel P West - "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" - "Xu Shang-Chi"

"Jurassic Park" - "It's a UNIX system! I know this..."
